Big Blue Filtration System
Also referred to a “Point-of-Entry” or “Whole House” Filtration System
Big Blue water filters work as point-of-entry (POE) systems, meaning they filter water as it enters a home’s plumbing system. This type of treatment provides chemical free filtered water to every faucet and water source in the house. Filtering water through a whole house water filter eliminates the risks of showering in contaminated water.
Some Advantages of using a Big Blue Descale Filtration System:
- Friendly to the environment.
- Can be used for domestic and industrial applications.
- Supplies pre-filtered water to every tap in house.
- Reducing chlorine and chemicals in water supply.
- Removes sand, silt, slime, rust, mud and other suspended solids.
- Removes contaminants that cause water to smell unpleasant, taste poor and take on unusual colors.
- Siliphos prevents scale and stops corrosion.
- Require no electricity.
Big Blue Water Systems Are Easy To Maintain And Upkeep Costs Are Minimal.
Ensure your water stays clean, fresh, and safe with routine filter maintenance. Big Blue Systems requires scheduled filter changes to maintain optimal performance and water quality.
The filter service interval will depend on the feed water quality and the total daily usage of the filter unit.
Big Blue Filters will need to be replaced every 6 months to 12 depending on the type of filter, your feed water quality and water usage volume.
Filter Replacement Guide for a 3 Stage 20Inch Big Blue Descale Unit
As a general guideline, it is recommended to change the filters every 6 months.
Stage 1 – 5mic PP Filter – Average every 6 months
Stage 2 – CTO Filter – Average every 6 months
Stage 3 – Siliphos – Top up average 2 – 3 months

Siliphos is a food-grade polyphosphate media used to prevent scale formation and corrosion in plumbing systems, appliances, and filtration units. It works by forming a protective microscopic layer on the inner surfaces of pipes and heating elements, thereby reducing lime scale buildup and metal leaching in systems where water hardness or aggressive water chemistry is a concern.
Key Benefits:
- Prevents scale and corrosion on pipes, geysers, and appliances
- Protects heating elements in kettles, dishwashers, and geysers
- Extends the life of water-using equipment
- Ideal for borehole or municipal water with mild to moderate hardness
Siliphos is typically housed in inline filter housings or dedicated anti-scale cartridges. To maintain its protective properties, the Siliphos media should be topped up every 2–3 months, depending on water hardness and usage levels, maximum 4kg per housing.

Hard Scale, i.e. calcium carbonate cannot so easily be removed by Siliphos. Here the advantage is again that Siliphos will prevent further scaling up.
Big Blue Descale Units are intended for municipal water filtration and limits apply to water quality and quantity. Have your borehole water tested before installing a Big Blue Descale Unit to ensure that it is the right solution. It is important to note that the volume of water put through the unit as well as the quality of the water, will greatly influence the life time of the filters.
